Change from IDE to AHCI Mode

If you installed Windows 7 in IDE mode and you want to switch to AHCI mode to enable the AHCI functions like Hot-Plugging and Native Command Queuing, follow these steps:

1. Stop other programs
2. Press [WindowsKey] + R
3. Type regedit and press Enter to open up the Registry Editor
4. Find this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\msahci
5. Select the key
6. In the right pane, right click on Start and select Modify…
7. Change the Value data: from 3 to 0
8. click OK and close the editor
9. reboot
10. Go to the BIOS settings and change the disk mode from IDE to AHCI
11. reboot
